BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU (BJJ) - MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA) – SELF-DEFENCE -FITNESS AND PRIVATE TRAINING.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

People train at our academy for various reasons. However, in general they train to achieve better fitness, learn self-defence, enter competition, build confidence, reduces stress and to make new friends.

Our classes are designed to be fun, energetic and challenging whilst in a friendly atmosphere. The aim of our classes is to enable individual growth through team work which allows the group to grow stronger.

A typical training session begins with a warm-up, a few basic movement exercises, then drilling or postural techniques in preparation for learning the main technique of the session and then finally 'rolling' (The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu equivalent of sparring). The rolling is an integral part of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it gives the opportunity to put techniques to use and achieve a fluent way of transitioning them together against an opponent.

Training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a tough challenge and being able to-do it means being in control of your own limitations and capabilities while acquiring highly valuable new skills.

Grading

Grading in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is completely unique from that of other martial arts. Whilst in many martial arts moving up grades is based upon a time scale, in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu it is measured by self-improvement and individual effort. When the instructor feels that the student has progressed well, with a clear understanding of the techniques taught, shows an improved ability in rolling as well as exercising self-control and general good conduct then the instructor will reward them. There is no formal grading, it can take place at any time and at the discretion of the instructor, while this may seem spontaneous it is also rewarding knowing your efforts have been acknowledged and takes away the pressure of a formal grading as in most martial arts.
