  1. Why do it and what are the benefits?

    There are many benefits to starting any lessons. From of the classes there are the general health benefits, as well as these you have the opportunity to learn something new and also make new friends along the way. On top of this, the martial arts classes provide you with a real-world skill base giving you confidence and a sound ability to look after your-self.

  2. Where is it?

    We run many classes and most are located in the Triangle Combat Academy, Brough. There are also classes running at Hull University and Fitness First, Hull. The details of these classes can be found at our classes time table page. View our classes’ time table.

  3. What if I can’t attend normal class times?

    Marcus offers private tuition available from the Triangle Combat Academy or a venue of your choice. The prices are available on request. Please read more information about private tution.

  4. What if I miss classes?

    Classes are paid by standing order, you are expected to make the classes but if you miss then they are non-refundable.

  5. What do I need to wear?

    For your first lesson in MMA or fitness class just bring a pair of shorts, t-shirt and trainers suitable for exercising. For your first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class please wear an old pair of trousers (not jeans) and a long sleeved t-shirt. Eventually in the Jiu-Jitsu class you will need a gi/kimono (training uniform) which is available from us. We will also provide club t-shirts at the time you join our club.

  6. Do I need to be fit?

    Any fitness level is welcome to the classes. Whilst our classes are hard work, all are welcome and we will make our best to accommodate you. As lessons progress so will your fitness and lessons will become easier.

  7. Do I need to have experience?

    Our classes accommodate people with no previous knowledge of martial arts to seasoned veterans.

  8. Will I get hurt?

    The martial arts classes are physical and as a result injuries do happen from time to time but a certain level of control is exercised to avoid injury.

  9. Are the sessions based on experience?

    Most are poded together however our Brazilian Jiu – Jitsu lessons have a Monday class more suitable to beginners.

  10. What is the learning environment like?

    In classes we have a positive atmosphere and a level of mutual respect. Classes are fun and friendly but still cultivate a positive learning atmosphere.

  11. Can women do it?

    Women are welcome to take part in any of the classes we run. We do however have separate class for men’s and women’s Mixed Martial Art (MMA) just for safety reasons.

  12. Is there any age limit?

    We do have a lower age limit of 16 for our adult classes however above this it is open to all and we encourage all ages above 16.

  13. How much will it cost to train?

    The price of our classes varies. Please check our membership plans page for more details.

  14. What is the grading system like?

    Please read the grading system section on this page for information regarding it.

  15. Do I have to be insured?

    Insurance is mandatory, but it is already included in the start up fee. We will sort out all the insurance details upon enrolment.

  16. Will I be competing?

    Competition is optional but not mandatory. We do have a competition team.

  17. How do I get on the team?

    To get on the team you need to have strong drive for competition and commit to getting in the best shape possible. On the top of this, show a competitive level of skills and enthusiasm in lessons.
